MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Abdul Qyyuam Sheikh, the man who had been accused of plotting the murder of music composer Gulshan Kumar who died thirteen years ago has been given reprieve by a sessions court in Mumbai. A notice issued by the court says that the prosecution could not produce sufficient evidence in court which could prove the allegations labeled against Abdul Qyyuam Sheikh, as a result of which he had to be acquitted by the sessions court.
According to the prosecution, Abdul Qyyuam Sheikh was not only involved in the murder of Gulshan Kumar, but also had connections with the Mumbai underworld, and took part in the serial bomb blasts that rocked the city in the year 1993. It had been alleged by the prosecution that Abdul Qyyuam Sheikh maintained close links with gangster Abu Salem. However the defense attorney has confirmed that the charges which had been made against Abdul Qyyuam Sheikh could not be proved in court thus forcing the sessions court to acquit the man.
According to the reports that had circulated in the media since the death of Gulshan Kumar more than ten years back, it was a business rivalry which had led to his untimely death. Fellow music composer Nadeem of the Nadeem - Shravan along with Abu Salem were also named the killers of Gulshan Kumar. It had been alleged in the sessions court that while Abdul Qyyuam Sheikh and Nadeem planned the murder, a person named Rauf Merchant executed it after consulting Ramesh Taurani, the business competitor of Gulshan Kumar. However only Rauf Merchant has been convicted for the murder as of now.
