SALT LAKE CITY (GaeaTimes.com)- Conservative radio and television show host Glenn Beck last Saturday revealed in front of a gathering of around 6000 people that he has been diagnosed with Macular Dystrophy. The revelation was made during his “American Revival” tour that was held at Salk Lake City during the weekend. Glenn Beck recalled his visit to the optometrist a few weeks ago and said that after a battery of test conducted by the doctor, he was informed by his doctor that he suffers from a kind of eye ailment that might leave him blind after a year. However, he also added that the possibility of his vision remaining unhindered has also not been ruled out by the doctor.
Macular dystrophy is a kind of slowly deteriorating kind of eye ailment that might leave a person blind. He said that he visited the doctor as he was unable to focus his eyes. The doctor, according to Glenn Beck, conducted all kinds of tests and at the end mentioned that the television host has developed macular dystrophy which might blind him next year or “might not” whole through his life. Glenn Beck who is known for his good sense of humor, said that he thinks he would be able to deal with not being able to see his children and wife as he already known how they look like, but being “too darn lazy” it would be a real problem for him to learn Braille.
However, the conservative radio host did not miss the opportunity to make some oblique references to the recent Health Care Reform Bill that is creating much overhaul while revealing his macular dystrophy. He said that he wants to visit the best of the doctors as long as he could avail them.

There are serious reasons to doubt Beck’s claim. His symptoms don’t match the disease, his new glasses do not match the disease and blindness with this disease is rare. (See:https://www.webmd.com/eye-health/macular-degeneration/understanding-macular-degeneration-basics) Beck did give his followers excellent advice last night: fact-check Glenn Beck. I’ve been doing it for three months now, and he deceives as a method of communication. |
