Disney bosses almost skipped a theatrical release for the sequel to hit kids’ movie TOY STORY - until the film’s stars TOM HANKS and TIM ALLEN challenged the decision.

Executives at Disney animation studio Pixar originally intended to send Toy Story 2 direct to stores, but Hanks and Allen, who voice the lead characters Woody and Buzz Lightyear, successfully appealed for a proper cinema release.

And the Big star insists they helped open the doors for further Toy Story instalments.

Hanks tells Britain’s Daily Mirror, “Tim and I and everybody else connected with it wanted to know why. We said it should be released as a film because it was magnificent and as good as the first one.

“Usually sequels are pale imitations and are slapped on video but this was really great. Eventually they bowed to some brand of common sense so now we have a Toy Story 3 and will there be a fourth Toy Story? Why not?”
