Hutcherson mum on reports he’s the new Spider-Man
NEW YORK — Maybe we need some Spidey sense to sort this out. Actor Josh Hutcherson won’t confirm or deny he’s been chosen as the next Spider-Man.
Internet sites including Twitter are buzzing with reports the 17-year-old will replace Toby Maguire. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios say Maguire won’t be back for the fourth “Spider-Man” movie.
In a recent Associated Press interview Hutcherson confirmed he auditioned but wouldn’t say anything about the reports. He says he doesn’t “want to get in trouble with anybody.”
Hutcherson has starred in films including “Journey to the Center of the Earth” and “Bridge to Terabithia.” He plays opposite Annette Bening and Julianne Moore in the independent film “The Kids are Alright,” opening July 9.
He says his superhero idol is actually Batman and a role as Spider-Man wouldn’t change that.
