Jackson estate contests 2nd Japanese firm’s claims
LOS ANGELES — Michael Jackson’s estate is challenging another Japanese company that claims it owns the rights to exploit the pop star’s image — this time on a mobile phone that purports to help the world’s children.
A lawyer for the estate says he was contacted within the last month by a representative of a company calling itself the Michael Jackson Asian Rights Company. The lawyer, Zia Modabber, says the company offered to sell the merchandising rights back to the estate, but he declined.
He says no rights were ever assigned to the company and the estate is now seeking its legal options to contest the company’s claims.
