NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- On Sunday, Katie Finneran held the prestigious gold statuette of Tony Awards for the second time. The actress received the Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical award for her comic portrayal of the character of a drunken woman in “Promises, Promises”. Apart from Katie Finneran the other nominees under the category were Barbara Cook for “Sondheim on Sondheim”, Angela Lansbury for “A little Night Music”, Karine Plantadit “Come Fly Away” and Lillias White “Fela!”. The actress seemed surprised and at the same time elated to receive a prestigious Tony Awards for a second time.
A humbled Katie Finneran dedicated her award to her fiance, actor Darren Goldstein to whom she got engaged recently. She also thanked her friends and family for their support and her co-stars Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth. Katie Finneran did not go for a formal acceptance speech but made it interesting by joking about her loaned eyelashes from her co-star Kristin Chenoweth and saying that her friends and family members are “all in the rafters!” However, she added on a serious note that she would like all the children watching the Tony Awards on television to pursue their dream and passion.
At the press conference after receiving the award, Katie Finneran said to media sources that the driving force behind her entering into the world of theater was the performances of Angela Lansbury. She added that to hear Angela Lansbury speak before the award ceremony was an “emotional” experience. Katie Finneran had also said to reporters backstage that she thinks she had began dreaming of being an actress watching the Tony Awards.
