LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- Angela Lansbury, once known as the darling of the American television and theater, has been appointed as the first ever Honorary Chairwoman of the American Theatre Wing, in New York. She was announced as being appointed in this post on June 13, at the stage of the ongoing Tony Awards, and was introduced to the audience- a needless reminder, granted her popularity- by the chairman of the Bord of Directors of the American Theatre Wing, Theodor S. Chapin. After having accepted the position, the veteran actress went on to say that she was honored to have been offered the position, something she referred to as a ‘prestigious honor.’
Needless to say, receiving the award is like coming home for the actress, who, admittedly, would not have been anywhere if not for the institution. Angela Lansbury went on to elaborate, saying that she had arrived with almost nothing in New York 70 years back from that date, with an interrupted education in acting and her mother and twin brothers for company. She was able to continue her education only after the American Theatre Wing, an affiliate of the British War Relief Effort, arranged for her to have a scholarship.
Angela Lansbury admitted that had not she been granted that scholarship, she would never have been able to make a career out of her passion. She went on to hope that all the others who have an eye on the stage or television or films would be able to make use of all the resources that the American Theatre Wing provides.
