Cowell To Get World Cup Song Played In Soccer Dressing Room

SIMON COWELL is so convinced his World Cup song will motivate the England soccer players, he has urged national team bosses to play the track in the dressing room before games.
The music mogul has teamed up with rapper Dizzee Rascal and British funnyman James Corden to record Shout For England in an effort to show their support for the England soccer team as they fight to make it to the finals of the tournament in South Africa.
And, after a disappointing one-all draw in the opening game against the U.S.A. on Saturday (12Jun10), Cowell insists it’s time to play the rousing anthem before the team’s next game against Algeria on Friday (18Jun10).
He says, “England needs this record right now. They should have played it in the dressing room at half-time (during the U.S.A. game). I’m actually serious. I’m going to try and get it played before the next match, in the dressing room.”
The soccer anthem, a revamped version of Tears For Fears’ Shout, is a big hit among fans - it stormed to the top of the U.K. pop charts on Sunday (13Jun10), just five days after it was made available.
All royalties from the record go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital for children in London.
The music of the World Cup has got British music fans all worked up - soccer anthems recorded by Somalian artist K’naan (Wavin’ Flag) and The Lightning Seeds/Baddiel and Skinner’s Three Lions, which was originally a number one hit back in 1996, have also entered the new top 10.
