RENO, Nev. — Folk music legend Joan Baez is among the performers slated for Reno’s 15th annual Artown festival this summer.
Organizers unveiled the lineup Thursday of more than 400 events to be spread over each day of July. It includes theater, dance, music, visual arts, multicultural events and children’s workshops.
Baez plays July 6.
Nearly two-thirds of the events are free, many on a downtown island in the Truckee River surrounded by a kayaking and whitewater park.
About 300,000 people attended last year. Officials estimate that since it began in 1996, Artown has helped pour about $100 million into the local economy.
It’s expanding for the first time this year to the historic mining town of Virginia City for a three-day “Americana Festival,” July 9-11.
