MOUNT AIRY, NORTH CAROLINA (GaeaTimes.com)- Betty Lou Lynn, the actress who played the part of Thelma Lou in the hit television series The Andy Griffith Show was robbed on Wednesday. There are a number of ironical factors in the crime. Number one, he robbery happened in the very place which had acted as the backdrop for the fictional town of Mayberry in the series, and the place had been chosen because it had the air of being a peaceful town. Irony number two lies in the fact that Betty Lou Lynn had shifted base from Los Angeles, where she had lived for the most part of her life, to avoid precisely the sort of trouble that she had to face on Wednesday. Betty Lou Lynn had been robbed thrice while she was in Los Angeles, known for its high crime rate.
According to reports, Betty Lou Lynn was visiting the New Market Crossing Shopping Center in Independence Boulevard when the incident occurred. A man had grabbed her hand and forced the wallet away from her, which, according to the reports provided by the Mount Airy Police Department, contained about $130. The police were notified, and later on, a man was arrested as being the suspect in the case. After having robbed the wallet, the robber had fled the shopping center before the actress could raise an alarm.
The police suspect that the arrested man, Shirley Walter Gunn, had stolen the purse of Betty Lou Lynn. He is currently in the Surry County Jail, and a bond has been set at $10,000. It is not yet known whether he has a lawyer or not. The police have reported that the man hails from Virginia.
