Race Is A Broadway Success
By WENNFriday, April 23, 2010
KERRY WASHINGTON and JAMES SPADER’s Broadway play RACE has been deemed a huge success - theatre bosses have recouped their $2.5 million (£1.6 million) production costs just four months after it opened.
The controversial David Mamet play, about a pair of lawyers asked to defend a white man accused of raping a black woman, opened in New York last December (09). The production also stars David Alan Grier and Richard Thomas.
And the show has been such a big hit with New York theatre fans, producers have already earned back their multi-million dollar investment, according to producer Jeffrey Richards.
Race joins a small group of Broadway plays that have defied the odds of a worldwide financial crisis to become financial successes this season - including Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig’s drama, A Steady Rain.
Race is scheduled to end its limited engagement on 13 June (10).

Lovely story and congratulations to the cast and producers of RACE. Brilliant play, I’ve seen it twice. However, why the pictures of Daniel Craig when the story is about James Spader and the rest of the cast of RACE? Somewhat of a slap in the face, yes? |
