Danny Glover Arrested

GAITHERSBURG, MARYLAND (GaeaTimes.com)- Veteran actor Danny Glover was arrested on Friday in a protest rally outside the United States headquarters of the French food service company Sodexo. According to reports, the “Lethal Weapon” star was taken into custody along with other protesters after they crossed the police line and subsequently were charged with trespassing. Apart from Danny Glover, as many as eleven other campaigners were also detained which included Andy Stern, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) outgoing head, Terry Sherry, the former canteen cashier at the French food services firm and several others. Terry Shelly alleged that she was sacked from the company after she participated in the trade union.
Sodexo, the French multinational food services and facilities management corporation has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons lately and is confronting attacks from various quarters due to its business practices. The protest rally which was held on Friday that witnessed the presence of Danny Glover, was opposed to the ‘terrible’ working conditions and the low wages of the workers. Apart from the 63 year old actor, the protest rally also witnessed the participation of hourly paid workers, students as well as union representatives from countries such as Britain and France.
However, soon after being arrested, Danny Glover and the other protesters were allowed to let go after citations were issued. Despite his arrest, “The Color Purple” actor still remains optimistic about the campaign against the French food services company. After Danny Glover was released from police custody, the actor is said to have told news sources that they were heading towards making some real positive transformations.
