Healthy Domingo opens NY restaurant, ready to sing
NEW YORK — Placido Domingo is back — ready to sing around the world.
But first, on Monday, the star tenor opened his new Manhattan restaurant — just weeks after colon cancer surgery.
The 69-year-old Spaniard said he was lucky to have experienced pain while on tour in Japan. He flew back to New York, where a malignant polyp was found and surgically removed last month.
He looked rested and tanned during a private opening party for the restaurant Zengo, which he co-owns with restaurateur Richard Sandoval.
Amid talk of tapas and tequila, Domingo addressed a much more serious subject: colonoscopies. He said he’d never had one before and urged people to “just do it!”
Domingo sings the title role in Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” at Milan’s La Scala, starting April 16.

I had my birthday at 49 grove last Saturday night. The place was a bit to packed but had a lot of fun. Good looking crowd, great DJ and very strong drinks. A bit too strong for some of my friends, but their light weights. All the staff were really attentive and made a point of taking care of us. When we left the club we even got a thank you from what turned out to be the owner. It wasn’t your usual B.S. “Thank you come again,” either and for that I want to plug this place as a great place for a birthday. |
