Germany’s Herbolzheimer Dies

German jazz musician PETER HERBOLZHEIMER has died at the age of 74 after battling a long illness.
The trombonist and big band leader passed away in his hometown of Cologne on Saturday (27Mar10), confirms Peter Ortmann, head of the German Music Council.
Romanian-born Herbolzheimer began his career in 1951 in Germany, before going on to work with U.S. artists including Al Jarreau and Dizzy Gillespie.
In 1987, he became the musical director of Germany’s national youth jazz orchestra, the BundesJazzOrchester, a position he held until 2006.
