Broadway’s ‘Memphis’ set to begin tour in Memphis

NEW YORK — “Memphis” is going home.

The national tour of the Broadway musical set in the Tennessee city will begin in Memphis at the Orpheum Theatre in October 2011.

Producer Sue Frost said Monday that additional cities, dates and casting will be announced at a future date. “Memphis” tells the story of a street-smart white disc jockey who brings black music to mainstream, white audiences in the 1950s.

The show features music by Bon Jovi keyboard player David Bryan, who also co-wrote the lyrics with its book writer, Joe DiPietro (dee-pee-AY’-troh). Broadway’s “Memphis” stars Chad Kimball as the white DJ and Montego Glover as a black club singer with whom he falls in love.
