“Critics make a difference only to small films” - Sajid Khan

March 16, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): A few weeks back, Sajid Khan had taken a dig on critics in an awards function. It appears that after ‘Heyy Babyy’, which was his debut directorial venture and did quite well in spite of mixed reviews, he seems to be having a bone to pick with the critics.
"No, that’s not the case. My point is that critics make a difference only to small films because they thrive on positive reviews. However, that’s not the case with big films. My own ‘Heyy Babyy’ is a living testimony to that. It was one of the Top 3 hits of 2007 but do you remember that most critics had written it off. It’s a similar phenomenon in West as well. ‘Transformers’ didn’t get more than 2 stars anywhere but it has done a business of more than 800 million dollars at the box office. No, I am not saying that it’s a great film but all I am saying is that eventually it’s the numbers that count", Sajid has a valid point to state here.
But then it was also heard that neither Akshay Kumar nor Sajid Nadiadwala were too happy with his act in this function. "No one ever tells me what to do on TV and stage", declares Sajid, "I have always gone ahead and done what I have wanted to. The only people that I take into confidence are the TV channel folks. That’s required because it’s their money which is on stake.
Well, with Sajid being extremely confident of the film, now one looks forward to the audience response to ‘Housefull’. The film promises to be the biggest entertainer in the offering soon after the conclusion of IPL and one can well expect Bollywood starved audience to hop into theaters and watch this Sajid Nadiadwala production that stars Akshay Kumar in lead along with Riteish Deshmukh, Arjun Rampal, Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta, Jiah Khan, Boman Irani, Chunky Pandey and Randhir Kapoor. With music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, ‘Housefull’ releases all over on 30th April.
