CHARLIE SHEEN has received the support of TV bosses behind his hit show TWO AND A HALF MEN after he checked himself into rehab on Tuesday (23Feb10).

A representative for the troubled star, who has a history of drug abuse, revealed he turned to medical professionals voluntarily as a “preventative measure”, although no further details of his treatment programme have been released to the press.

His spokesperson said, “As a preventative measure, Charlie Sheen has entered a rehabilitation facility. He will take some time off his series Two and a Half Men. He has asked that his privacy be honoured. No further statements are planned.”

Sheen is rumoured to be spending the next two weeks at the centre, the location of which has not been revealed.

His admission has halted filming on his comedy series but the actor has been given the full backing of executives from CBS and Warner Bros. as he sorts out his personal issues, reports TMZ.com.

A joint statement released by TV bosses on Tuesday reads: “CBS, Warner Bros. Television and (show creator) Chuck Lorre support Charlie Sheen in his decision today to begin voluntary in-patient care at a treatment centre.”

Sheen’s rehab news came just two days after his wife Brooke Mueller checked into a Los Angeles recuperation centre after a weekend (21Feb10) security breach prompted her to leave the Malibu, California facility she checked into earlier this month (Feb10).

The couple, which shares 11-month-old twin sons Bob and Max, has been working on rebuilding its marriage following a Christmas Day (25Dec09) bust-up in Aspen, Colorado which led to Sheen’s arrest.

He was subsequently charged with felony menacing, third degree assault and misdemeanour criminal mischief after allegedly threatening Mueller with a knife during the fight.
