Chindodi Leela passes away

Renowned theatre and Kannada film actress Padmasri Chindodi Leela is no more. She passed away at the age of 72 on Thursday after battling a brief illness.

One of the earliest theatre artists, she was the recipient of the Gubbi Veeranna award. It is the highest honor given to a theatre artiste by the Karnataka government. Her stage debut, Halli Hudugi was staged for 10,000 times from 1960 to 1983. Some of her popular films are Gali Gopura, Tejaswini, Bhale Hudga, Sri Krishnadevaraya, Sharapanjara, Tumbida Koda and Gaanayogi Panchakshari Gavayi. Her body was kept at Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira on Friday for six hours from six in the morning for people to pay their last respects to the departed actress. Karnataka Chief Minister Dr. BS Yediyurappa gave a condolence speech where he said that the actress’ death is a huge loss.
