March 2 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Director P Vasu’s recent release, the Kannada film, ‘Aaptha Rakshaka’, starring late actor Dr. Vishnuvardhan, has made record-breaking sales at the box office. The filmmaker had earlier directed ‘Apthamitra’ – a remake of the Malayalam movie, ‘Manichitrathazhu’, which was later remade in Tamil as ‘Chandramukhi’. All the three versions turned out to be blockbusters.

Elatedly, director P Vasu geared up with ‘Aaptha Rakshaka’ that hit the screens on February 19. According to the trade reports, the film collected Rs. 1.45 crores in the first few days after its release, which is unusual and unheard of in the Kannada film industry.

The film also featured Malayalam actress, Vimala Raman, and Sandhya, in lead roles. ‘Aaptha Rakshaka’ has turned out to be a very special film for all the fanatical devotees of Vishnuvardhan as it happened to be the last film of the legendary and venerated Vishnuvardhan (200th film). Allegedly, a black ticket was sold for Rs.3000/- in Bengaluru and the admirers of Vishnuvardhan from Mumbai and Chennai had thronged to watch this film. The buzz is that P Vasu is planning to remake the film in Tamil as ‘Chandramukhi-2’ with megastar Rajnikanth in lead role.
