Witherspoon Backs Britain On Domestic Violence Issues
By WENNThursday, December 3, 2009
REESE WITHERSPOON has called on the British government to take better care of domestic violence victims in a speech at the country’s House of Commons.
The Oscar-winning actress is honorary chairwoman of the Avon Foundation, which has teamed with domestic violence charity Refuge for the Four Ways To Speak Out campaign.
As part of her role, Witherspoon was invited to speak in front of British Members of Parliament (MPs) in London on Wednesday (02Dec09) and she made a brief address calling for reformation of victims’ services.
Witherspoon, who admitted she was “overwhelmed” by the opportunity to appear at the historic Houses of Parliament, previously told U.K. morning show GMTV, “Everyone’s lives are touched by this issue, whether it be our children, or our mothers or our sisters. So many women. The most important thing I can do here today is start this dialogue that we’re having.”
