A rare combination of beauty with brains Lara has come a long way from when she started her career in Bollywood. After exploring her acting skills in films she seems to have realized her forte in terms of genre, which is comedy. And the King of comedy David Dhawan who signed her yet again after ‘Partner’ has boosted this confidence. The team- David Dhawan, Govinda and Lara Dutta along with Sushmita Sen, Ritesh Deshmukh, Ranvir Shorey, has again teamed up with ‘Do Knot Disturb’.
In a candid interview, Lara Dutta talks about her character and her inclination for the genre of comedy.
Shed some light on the storyline? How does your character figure out in Do Knot Disturb?
I’m playing Dolly who is in love with a married man. To hide this extra- marital love affair situations arise which eventually results into loads of humor and drama.
So are you the same Govinda’s Dolly who has become so popular with the audience?
(Laughs) Yes, I’m his Dolly and she has become famous just because the way Chi-Chi calls her.
How was your experience working with another Miss Universe Sushmita Sen in the movie?
It was good but we hardly had a few scenes together but all together it was a dream come true by working with her.
With two former Miss Universe working together in the same movie, the news was doing rounds of few clashes between you two? Is that true?
Is it necessary that if two actresses are working together, they are bound to have a cat fight? The shoot was a really good experience and nothing like that happened.
How has been the experience to work with Govinda so far?
It has been a fantastic experience working with him again after doing movies like ‘Bhaagam Bhaag’ and ‘Partner’. ‘Do Knot Disturb’ gave me more opportunity to share the screen with him that makes it special. However, this doesn’t end here. Govinda and me have paired again in Ravi Chopra’s ‘Banda ye Bindaas’ hai which will be released soon.
Did you face any kind of problem while shooting for Do Knot Disturb?
Govinda and David Dhawan take genre comedy to a different altitude together. So, it was a real task for me to match upto their standards.
So, why this sudden inclination towards comedy which is considered to be a very serious business?
Yes, ofcourse it indeed is a serious business. See, it was not an intentional decision to venture into comedy. I personally believe, comic roles are difficult to play in comparison to serious roles. I have been flooded by them off late and eventually scripts I came across were really interesting. And now, I won’t deny- I am really enjoying my work. It is a sheer delight to work with veterans David Dhawan, Priyadarshan and Sajid Khan
How was it working the Sanjay Dutt for the first time in the film Blue?
The movie ‘Blue’ is an out of box attempt by Anthony D’Souza where I’ve had a few action sequences too. Sanjay Dutt is a great actor and it was a sheer pleasure to work with him. We’ve shot the movie underwater; I think the audience will like the film.
