JOHN TRAVOLTA wanted to fly his son JETT to Florida immediately after the teenager suffered a seizure in the Bahamas, so he would receive better medical care, a court has heard.

The 16 year old died in January (09) during a family vacation on the Caribbean island.

Former Bahamian Senator Pleasant Bridgewater and paramedic Tarino Lightbourne, who attended to the boy after the incident, are currently on trial in the Bahamas on charges of extortion.

They are accused of conspiring to release a document containing information about Jett’s death in a $25 million (£17.2 million) bribery plot against Travolta and his grieving wife Kelly Preston.

Police inspector Andrew Wells was the first witness to take the stand on Tuesday (22Sep09), testifying how Lightbourne had told him the actor had signed forms releasing the paramedics from liability so he could take the teen to an airport.

Reports suggest Travolta soon changed his mind and instructed his boy be taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Hollywood star returned to the Bahamas on Monday (21Sep09), the first time since Jett’s death, as he prepared to testify in the case.

He is expected to take the stand later this week (begs21Sep09).

Bridgewater and Lightbourne have pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
