KOLKATA - With stunning models attired in tribal-yet-contemporary wear walking down the ramp, veteran designer duo Monapali captivated the audience at the Kolkata Fashion Week (KFW)-II with their couture.

As tribal music played in the backdrop, the fashion show exuded sensuality, earthly rawness and a provocative feel Friday night.

“We tried to follow the tribal line in the collection maintaining all the other aspects like a vibrant colour pallette, makeup of the models and the background music,” Mona Lamba of the designer duo told reporters after the event.

“We have given contemporary touches to all the traditional ensembles, like the ghagra-choli, and used natural fibres, strong and a contrasting colour pallette with blue, red, green, wine and orange in it. You can say it’s a ghagra-choli with a twist.

“We didn’t use any synthetic textiles in the collection, considering the point of comfort dressing,” Pali Sachdev said.

The collection celebrated the charm of craftsmanship with traditional elegance and fine embroidery. The designer wear comprised dungaree skirts, kaftans, tunics, kurtas and saris.

According to the designers, the entire collection was a blend of old-fashioned charm and contemporary eclecticism.

“The collection is an ode to the beauty of the feminine form, the mix of absolute opposites - rawness and luxury,” Mona said.
