KOLKATA - Showcasing a breathtaking array of saris and lehengas suited for both traditional and ‘destination’ weddings, famed designer Neeta Lulla displayed her bridal collection at the Kolkata Fashion Week-II late Friday.

“My collection is entirely bridal with two distinctive features. One is very Indian and traditional and the second is catering to the concept of destination weddings.

“A lot of weddings nowadays are happening in places like Goa, Phuket, in which the brides need not necessarily wear something Indian. They can wear something free flowing, funky, textured, which has the essence of youthfulness and yet has the bridal wear look,” she told reporters after exhibiting her collection.

The ramp show, which started very dramatically with models wearing saris in the traditional Bengali way with diyas in hand, saw Bollywood star Sameera Reddy as the showstopper.

Neeta had designed Aishwarya Rai Bachhan’s mehendi and wedding outfits.

The collection the models displayed included colours ranging from cream, sea green, pink to bright red, green and golden. It had heavy embroidery work on them.

Neeta said: “I have used lot of textures in the western concepts, which was essentially in georgettes, a lot of textural quality that has been specially developed. For Indian ethnic wear it was more silk, brocades and nets.”
