Spokesman: Country singer Ferlin Husky improving

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A spokesman for country star Ferlin Husky says the hospitalized singer is improving and has been moved from critical care in Nashville.

The 83-year-old singer was admitted to the hospital Thursday and treated for an accelerated heart rate, possible pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Heart of Texas Records President Tracy Pitcox said Monday that Husky could be released Thursday or Friday.

Husky, who lives in Vienna, Mo., was hospitalized in April with congestive heart failure and pneumonia after a monthlong tour in Texas.

Husky was country music’s top entertainer in the early 1960s with hits like “Wings of a Dove” and “Gone.” His latest album, released in 2007, is called “The Way It Was.”
