Obama girls get San Francisco cable car treat

SAN FRANCISCO — The daughters of President Barack Obama have helped inaugurate something new in San Francisco.

While their mom, Michelle Obama, was helping volunteers build a school playground Monday, Malia and Sasha Obama were among the first passengers on a new cable car making its maiden runs in the city.

Metropolitan Transportation Agency chief Nathaniel Ford escorted the girls and their grandmother, Marian Robinson. They rode from Nob Hill to Lombard Street, billed as the “Crookedest Street in the World.”

Ford says he’s honored that the girls rode along.

Michelle Obama was in San Francisco to promote the president’s national volunteering initiative.
