Kindle display maker E Ink gets acquired for $215M
NEW YORK — E Ink Corp., the maker of the innovative display for the Amazon Kindle e-book reader and other devices, has agreed to be acquired by a Taiwanese company for $215 million.
The acquirer is Prime View International, which has been Cambridge, Mass.-based E Ink’s manufacturing partner in supplying “electronic ink” displays for Amazon’s and Sony’s e-book readers.
The companies say the deal will help them develop color versions of the displays. Current models show only shades of gray.
E Ink will demonstrate color display prototypes on Tuesday at a display technology show in San Antonio.
