Designers Pankaj-Nidhi offer Mughal era inspired clothes

MUMBAI - Designer duo Pankaj-Nidhi have something royal to offer to women this festive season — they have created a collection called Gulabpash, inspired by the Mughal era.

Gulabpash means gold rosewater sprinkler and it was used in the Mughal empire to sprinkle rose water on honoured guests to welcome them. These vessels were beautifully decorated with pearls, rubies, diamonds and emeralds in different patterns.

Adopting the same pattern for their collection, Pankaj-Nidhi have converted them into delicate embroideries by using zardozi, pearls and kundan on soft silk, georgettes, chiffons and diaphanous net.

The clothes are on sale at Mumbai-based store Ensemble.

\”This collection is dedicated to the festive season that\’s round the corner. It includes kalidaar kurtas, anarkalis, short kurtas in colours like yellow, orange, aqua, turquoise, red, pink etc. The collection boasts of a lot of cut work and appliques,\” said Tina Tahiliani, executive director of Ensemble.

The hallmark of the collection is that it is very chic and wearable. Apart from the traditional wear, the collection also includes western wear which is completely black and white and includes western tops and dresses, she added.
