MELBOURNE - Director Peter Jackson has denied offering actor David Tennant the main role in ‘Lord Of The Rings’ prequel ‘The Hobbit’, insisting that the production is still in the “very early stages”.

“The studio hasn’t even green-lit The Hobbit yet, but everyone is assuming the film is all happening,” News.com.au quoted him as telling movie news service Total Film.

“But it’s not really the case. The studio has to approve the script first of all and have confidence that the script is going to make a good film.

“And then we have to budget that script - because there’s no budget, we don’t know how much it’s going to cost and you don’t know until you finish the script,” he added.

Rumours were abuzz that the British actor Tennant had been offered the lead role of Bilbo, a halfling who goes on a rollicking adventure with 13 dwarves and a wizard to slay a dragon.

“We haven’t offered the role to anybody yet,” he added. (ANI)
