MELBOURNE - Even more than 15,000 die-hard fans of Elvis Presley gathered at Parkes in central New South Wales could not break the world record for the largest-ever gathering of Elvis impersonators.

“We didn’t break the record, but we did have 610 impersonators - including Priscillas - so we’re going to write to the Guinness Book of Records and see if we can get an entry for that,” News.com.au quoted Parkes mayor Ken Keith as saying.

“I’m confident that we’ll break the record in 2012,” he said.

Thousands of Elvis fans had flocked into the annual Parkes Elvis Festival, which is timed to celebrate The King’s January 8 birthday.

The town has still had a win of sorts with 3,000 extra people thought to be in town compared with last year.

The 12,000 that descended on Parkes for the festival in 2010 managed to generate 5 million dollars for the local economy. (ANI)
