NEW DELHI - It is not just the real world which has its eyes set on the Commonwealth Games, the virtual world is also googling its way to make CWG and Suresh Kalmadi two of the most searched topics in cyberspace, a Google Trends reports said Thursday.
On the US list for Google Trends, the Commonwealth Games medal tally was the fifth most searched item between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday.
CWG Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi is also not far behind in the race.
\’Suresh Kalmadi corruption\’, \’Suresh Kalmadi profile\’, \’Suresh Kalmadi scam\’ - are some of the most popular searches on the web.
Micro-blogging site Twitter also presented a similar result as CWG has been the most trending item.
\’Commonwealth Games shame\’ was the 10th most tweeted topic worldwide among the 190 million strong twitterati.
But Priya Singh Paul, additional director general in communications wing of the organising committee, says the negative posts are subsiding.
The number of fans on Facebook have increased and we receive positive posts from spectators worldwide. The social platforms have seen a tremendous response from the people after the spectacular opening ceremony, Paul told IANS.
The official 19th Commonwealth Games account lists nearly 150,000 fans on Facebook.
\”Now it is the \’opening ceremony video\’ and \’Commonwealth Games medal tally\’ that is becoming the most searched item search engines. Our digital monitoring teams have reported an upward climb in the trends, Paul added.
Over one lakh people have shared the video of the Games opener on Facebook, other than a million who have viewed it on the video-sharing website Youtube.
The communications wing has also been active in posting latest photographs and videos of the matches and match results for fans on Facebook.
\”Just saw the current medal tally for India: 26 medals - 12 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze. India is rocking the stadiums.. Go India, go! said Swati Arora, a young fan of the official CWG profile on Facebook.
