LONDON (GaeaTimes.com) — The song “You Can’t Stop the Beat” seemed to infect dozens almost instantly at the Elizabeth shopping center Saturday afternoon.

As the beats started off it was an elderly couple who came up shaking their legs. Well, with every wink of the eye the population seemed to double and soon there were dozens jumping and dancing to the number.

The event was set out to be a flash mob staged by Paper Mill Playhouse as an act of promotion for its upcoming musical “Hairspray.”

Hairspray is a musical based on the 1988 John Waters film “Hairspray”. The flick flaunts music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman and a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan.

Hairspray had already bagged awards like, Tony Award Best Musical, Tony Award Best Book, Tony Award Best Score, Drama Desk Outstanding Musical, Drama Desk Outstanding Book, Drama Desk Outstanding Music and Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical

This years tour focuses on Melbourne, Sao Paulo, UK and Mexico City.

Shayne Miller, director of press and public relations and organizer of Saturday’s event, said,

Since our programming has changed and we’re more family friendly, we’ve had to adjust our thinking as far as how we advertise and do our promotions.

As per instructions from the Millburn theater officials the stunt has been recorded and is now available on the internet. This has been quite an appropriate usage of technology and media at the same time for the promotion of art. The video is on the verge of being viral and its merry time for the Paper Mill officials.
