MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) — A movie starring Akshay Kumar, in a goofy role has become an annual affair for Bollywood. Look at the list and you will see that all of them are almost similar to each other. When Hera-Pheri first came out
it was like a breath of fresh air. He went on repeat his acts, in movies like Singh is kinng,Chandni-Chowk to China
to name a few. Sadly, this formula is showing its age, with his expressions and acting becoming more predictable by each release.
The film in question is Khatta-Meetha directed by Priyadarshan also stars southern actress Trisha Krishnan, and veterans like Rajpal Yadav, Jhonny Lever, Asrani to name a few. The concept is very novel with Akshay Kumar playing a simple Marathi Manoos, an honest road contractor by profession. Gehna Ganpule (Trisha Krishnan), the ex-girlfriend of Sachin is the strict Commissioner of Phaltan. Rajpal Yadav playing the role of a road worker understands that in India you have to grease a few palms to get what you want. What follows is an assortment of comic situations with some comic-tracks leaving the people, attending the first day first show into splits.
Priyadarshan relies on veterans like Rajpal Yadav, Jhonny Lever to deliver a consistent performance,
they do not disapoint. The music by Pritam are largely forgettable. But as mentioned Akshay Kumar has become largely predictable of late. Wile doing nothing wrong in general, he can sleep-walk into such characters. Special mention for Kulbhushan Kharbanda must be made he makes an impact with the relatively small role of Akshay’s father.
