JACKIE CHAN has pitched in to help those affected by a drought in China - by personally delivering much-needed water to the area.

The martial arts master travelled to TongRen in China’s Guizhou province, where there has been a severe water shortage, earlier this month (May10) with 48,000 bottles of fluids.

Upon arrival, he carried bottles to residents’ homes and also visited an elementary school, where he gave students backpacks filled with notebooks, t-shirts and rulers.

In a post on his blog, he writes, “Up in the mountains where the people lived, they were facing serious water shortages. In the summer’s dry season, villagers have to walk 10 miles down the mountain just to collect two bottles of water.

“In the car up to the mountain, I could see the roof of many houses, used as a reservoir for water. However, it was covered with moss and there was no filter. They used it to wash their clothes, their plates, and even to drink.”

And the Rush Hour star insists the unforgettable experience was entirely rewarding.

He adds, “After seeing how they drank water, I immediately donated one million RMB (Chinese yuan) to the local government. Also, I donated money (for) the construction of 10 kilometres of water pipes and a water tower. Now, 9,000 people in the village can drink clean water!”
