DAVID ARQUETTE turned down the lead role in the first SCREAM movie - because he wanted to kiss COURTENEY COX.

The actor was offered the part of Billy in the 1996 horror film but insisted he wanted to play the smaller role of Deputy Dewey.

Casting agents couldn’t understand why he’d prefer to play a lesser role - but he had his own agenda.

Arquette, who is now married to Cox, says, “They wanted me for the part of Billy… and Skeet Ulrich ended up doing that. But I was like, ‘I wanna play Dewey’.

“They were like…, ‘That’s a nothing role; what are you talking about?’ I said, ‘I get to kiss Courteney Cox. I wanna play that role.’”

The couple met on the set of the horror film and fell in love. They’ve been married for 10 years.
