NEW DELHI - Flamboyant designer Rohit Bal, who suffered a massive heart attack and underwent an angioplasty, is recovering well at the Medanta Medicity in Gurgaon, his doctor said Wednesday.

Bal, who is in his 40s, suffered a heart attack early Tuesday and was initially rushed to Aashlok Hospital in Safdarjung Enclave in South Delhi. He was later shifted to Medicity, where he had to undergo angioplasty - a technique used for mechanically widening a narrowed or obstructed blood vessel.

According to Medicity’s chairman Naresh Trehan, who is also a well-known cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeon, Bal’s condition is improving.

“He is recovering well. It is too early to talk about his exact condition. He will be kept under medical observation for a minimum of two-three days, Trehan told IANS.

“He suffered a heart attack. So many people get it every day. There is no such special reason, he added.

Trehan, however, pointed out that Bal’s family history suggests they are very prone to heart attacks and hence he was vulnerable to it.

Bal, popularly known as ‘Gudda’ in the fashion industry, has been described as master of fabric and fantasy.

Apart from designing for many Bollywood celebrities, Bal also has international clients like Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, Pamela Anderson, Naomi Campbell and Anna Kournikova.
