Comparison:

Sherlock Holmes reviews are in and like many movies there are both those that love the movie and those that think that it could have been better. It got 68% approval rating. This is lower than the rating for Avatar, which was in the 80% range.

Those that expect Sherlock Holmes to be similar to its inspiration will be a little disappointed. Those that like plenty of action will be pleased.

For Twilight fans at least, the year 2009 was invariably the year of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. It was one of the most anticipated movie of the year. There was a fair amount of Twilight excitement among the fans to look forward to the movie during Christmas. The film has reached a level of ridiculous popularity till date. Folks are even scheming up a reality show based on real-life teenage vampires and werewolves,

Avatar is one of the most secretive movies ever developed to date. The widely acclaimed Alien movie with a $300 million budget from James Cameron is really praise worthy. The review of the movie was so convincing that people who don’t like Alien movies, also felt excited to watch it.

In the Christmas week, Avatar’s take was $23.5M Friday and $28.5M Saturday for the $75M weekend with Sunday’s estimate. As for Sherlock Holmes’ numbers, the Guy Ritchie directed mystery thriller made $24.8M Friday and $22.5M Saturday for a slightly less than expected $66M weekend –though Sherlock is playing in 170 more theaters than Avatar, 3,626 vs 3,456.

New Moon box office totals are also extremely impressive. Sources report, New Moon has already broken the record for sell-outs before a movie is even released. New Moon has made $42.5 million.

So, it seems Avatar is the most liked movie so far. James Cameron has really done a good job, which is appreciated by the audience. I like the 3D animation film as I am fond of Alien movies. Then I would rate Sherlock Holmes and New Moon respectively. These movies have also broken many box office records and will be regarded as two great movies of 2009.
