SANDRA BULLOCK’s real-life football movie THE BLIND SIDE has scored another touchdown - toppling the vampires and werewolves of the TWILIGHT sequel to claim the top film spot in the U.S.
The film, chronicling the well-to-do Touhy family’s decision to adopt homeless African-American Michael Oher and help steer him to glory on the sports field, has been second to The Twilight Saga: New Moon for the past two weeks, but now it has taken it’s place at number one on the box office countdown.
The movie, which also stars country singer Tim McGraw, made an estimated $20.4 million (?12.75 million) over the weekend to take it’s three-week tally to a staggering $129 (?80.6 million).
The Twilight sequel has slipped to second with $15.7 million (?9.8 million) and Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire’s hard-hitting new movie Brothers debuts at three with a $9.7 million (?6 million) opening weekend.
Robert De Niro’s new movie, Everybody’s Fine, has become the latest box office flop - it just made the top 10 at nine with a disappointing $4 million (?2.5 million) opening.
