Horror Director Was Inspired By His Own ‘haunted House’

OREN PELI’s new horror movie PARANORMAL ACTIVITY was inspired by spooky goings-on in the director’s own home.

Peli shot the film in his bedroom and created all the special effects using his home computer, but it has quickly become a box office sensation, returning a staggering $40 million (GBP27 million) on his budget of just $15,000 (GBP10,000).

The director admits he came up with the idea after a series of eerie sleepless nights at his house in southern California.

Peli tells the New York Daily News, “There were a couple of things that were hard to explain. I never thought we had a ghost or we were dealing with a supernatural phenomenon. But that’s what got me thinking…”
