Pop punk stars PARAMORE have knocked MADONNA off the top of the British album chart.

The band, who last week (begs28Sep09) postponed a string of U.S. gigs to allow singer Hayley Williams to recover from laryngitis, claimed the number one spot with Brand New Eyes, with the Queen Of Pop’s Celebration falling to two.

Folk singer Newton Faulkner was at three with Rebuilt By Humans, followed by Barbra Streisand’s record Love Is The Answer. Muse’s The Resistance was at five.

In the U.K. singles chart, Taio Cruz’s Break Your Heart retained the top spot while Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys climbed a rung to two, knocking David Guetta and Akon’s collaboration, Sexy Chick, into third.

She Wolf by Shakira and the Black Eyed Peas’ I Gotta Feeling completed the top five.
