Soul star ERYKAH BADU has put her eight-month-old daughter on a macrobiotic diet to ensure she develops a “healthy body”.

The Bag Lady singer gave birth to producer Jay Electronica’s baby, Mars Merkaba, in February (09) and admits she started feeding the tot grains and vegetables as soon as she was old enough to swallow solid foods.

Badu, who has been a vegan for years, chose to put little Mars on the diet along with her two other kids, son Seven Sirius and daughter Puma Rose, after discovering her boy was allergic to a number of nuts, fruits and vegetables.

She tells People.com’s Celebrity Baby Blog, “It’s different from being a vegan in that it goes a little bit deeper into the yin and yang of what a human being needs.

“I always wanted to do it, but I didn’t really understand the dynamics. Then, the more children you have, the more you get into health and holistic living. Which goes so far beyond being a vegan.

“I think they should know the benefits of having a healthy body.”

Seven is Badu’s child from her relationship with OutKast’s Andre 3000, while Puma is the daughter of rapper The D.O.C.

Other celebrities who have followed macrobiotic diets in the past include Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna.
