Shahrukh Khan incident has lowered image of US security establishment, says former Indian Ambassador to USA
By ANISaturday, August 15, 2009
NEW DELHI - India’s former ambassador to the United States Naresh Chandra on Saturday said that the detention of Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan at Newark International Airport for two hours, clearly exhibited the “ham-handed” approach of American security agencies.
He told ANI over phone that a formal complaint about this harassment should be reported to the US State Department.
Reacting to the incident, Ambassador Chandra said: ” The authorities should have taken maximum 10 -15 minutes for questioning Shahrukh, but it took two hours. It is great incompetence and has lowered the image of (US) Homeland Security”.
Sources said that Khan was indeed detained at the US airport and questioned for two hours. They said he was released only after Indian Officials intervened.
Sources here said that the Consulate General of New York was in touch with Shahrukh Khan and the matter has been taken up with the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi.
According to sources, the Indian consulate could register a formal complaint against the security agencies involved in this “embarrassing” incident.
Some experts said that a formal complaint should be sent to the US envoy in Delhi.
Chandra, however, said that making it a big diplomatic issue would be counterproductive because the incident had nothing to do with US policy, but was the handiwork of lowly officers deployed at the airport. By Naveen Kapoor (ANI)
In light of Shahrukh Khan incident at Newark, do you think US Homeland Security systematically targets Muslims?

Next Star Trek movie should have Shahrukh Khan as a guest. The movie should be called “The Wrath of Khan” |

When did Indian ambassadors become the mouthpiece for film actors? Extranl affairs ministry’s job is not to show special favours to some segment of society.. and any aberrations should be subject to audit. It is normal for U.S. immigration authorities to question visitors, so nothing wrong about Khan subject to the same procedure. |

i think this is his stunt to make his upcoming movie a mejor hit… because if you see this is not his first visit to USA afer 9/11 incident.. he might have been checked even more than 2 hrs.. but why he is highlighting this issue.. now.. its only because he wants to create the warm air to induce all to watch his upcoming movi,, which is related to the same issue… about all the channels framing this news.,, they also might have been paid by SRK to hightlight this.. if he is earning corors from the movie. then why not he will pay some pennies to channels, to gain lime light.? |

It’s disgusting , the way Shahrukh Khan was treated by the Security and immigartion in USA. Let us treat any of their public figure the same way and see the result!!!!! |
