LOS ANGELES — A hearse carrying Michael Jackson’s golden casket has left a private service in the Hollywood Hills, apparently heading to a public memorial in downtown Los Angeles.

Family and friends spent about a half hour in the service Tuesday morning, then left in a motorcade behind the hearse.

Police say Jackson’s body will be brought to the downtown Staples Center for a star-studded public memorial service.
