Rapper DMX avoids more Ariz. jail time for assault
PHOENIX — Rapper DMX will not have to serve any more jail time in Arizona despite his guilty plea for throwing a food tray at a jail officer.
The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was sentenced Monday to supervised probation by Maricopa County Superior Court.
Authorities say that while Simmons was jailed for an earlier offense, he took a meal from a tray and became upset and threw the food when told he couldn’t have it. Simmons pleaded guilty in May to attempted aggravated assault in the incident.
Simmons had been serving a sentence after pleading guilty to felony charges of theft, drug possession and a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty.
He’ll be allowed to serve his probation and undergo drug counseling in Florida, where he plans to return.
He says he is ready to continue work on a new album.
