LOS ANGELES - Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan is likely to be charged Monday for stealing a $2,500 necklace from a jewellery store.

If convicted, the troubled star faces up to three years in prison. Lohan was captured on the Los Angeles store’s security camera wearing the necklace and is said to have been photographed with the accessory one week later. However, the piece has been returned.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office is expected to file charges as early as Monday, reports usmagazine.com.

The actress has reportedly claimed she borrowed the necklace with the consent of the owner of jewellery store Kamofie & Company and has not stolen it.
