Experts find Justin Bieber’s controversial abortion comments ‘positive’

NEW YORK - Teenage sensation Justin Bieber has found some supporters after being slammed for talking about abortion in a Rolling Stone interview.
In a recent interview with the magazine, Bieber said, “I really don’t believe in abortion. I think [an embryo] is a human. It’s like killing a baby.”
Glenn Stanton, who examines family trends in culture, said that Bieber’s view is “not unique among young people.”
“We always kind of like to put things into left and right politics, but with the younger generation, they’re not interested in that. They kind of want to take a more honest, objective view. And that’s what we see with Justin,” the New York Daily News quoted him as saying.
“Entertainers are influential. They have an impact on what we think and can use their voice like nobody else. If you feel [the same] quietly, [Bieber can show that] you’re not the weirdo you think you are,” he said.
“I think it is very positive for Justin to use his voice,” he added.
Laura Berman, a sex therapist and educator, agreed that something powerful can come from Bieber’s openness: “a teachable moment.”
“Whatever your values are around abortion rights, it’s a teachable moment to use with your child. You can have a really amazing conversation with your 12-year-old daughter [and ask], ‘What do you think about what he said?’ said Berman. (ANI)
