NEW DELHI - VJ-turned-actor Gaurav Kapur, who was seen in films like “Darna Mana Hai” and “Chai Pani Etc”, says he was not very careful in selecting his movies.
“I have been very reckless about my film choices. So, I have been under constant thinking process to analyse where I went wrong. That is why I didn’t take up any project for two-three years. Now I am stable and focused about my choices,” Gaurav told IANS in an interview.
Gaurav, who is returning to small screen after five months’ break as the host of the second season of the reality show “Big Switch”, says part two of the show will be high on drama. The show is going on air Friday on UTV Bindass.
While the first season of “Big Switch” was about the rich and poor kids, this time it focuses on a war of generations.
“The concept is the same of switching, but this time it is about families. Parents and kids from the age group of 18-25 will comprise of the contestants. The situation inside the house is going to be quite a pressure cooker one,” said Gaurav who was last seen as the host of the Indian Premier League.
“The problems, dialogues, fights and arguments are all going to be high on drama. This will be the USP of the show because it will act as a bond between the viewers and contestants,” he said.
Talking about selection procedure, he said: “We meet the contestants, see their applications and focus on families who are high on disputes and, of course, where characters are interesting. We are not an NGO, we are a television channel. We want to give people entertainment. So, we deliberately look for families which have a bit of drama in them.”
The show, which comprises of 13 episodes, will give parents and children a chance to change roles respectively for 48 hours.
“At the end of four days the major task starts - an objective assessment needs to be done. Neighbours, relatives are roped in as the jury of the show and they help us to assess them.”
The show does not have any prize money.
Besides “Big Switch 2″, Gaurav will host another show for Bindass.
“I will be doing another show with Bindass, but it will take some time, so I can’t talk about it,” said the actor who has two movies lined up for release.
“As far as films are concerned, two of my movies are set to release soon - ‘Office Office’, an adaptation of the TV show with the same cast. The main character of the movie is Musaddilal and it is played by Pankaj Kapoor. He is an upright school teacher and moralistic. I am playing his son Bunty Tripathi, who is just his opposite.”
“The other project is ‘Saluun’ by Pritish Nandy Communications. It’s a sweet small little comedy, where I’m playing the main lead.”
Garuav was aslo seen in movies like “Ssssshhhh” (2003), “White Rainbow”, “Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamaana”, “Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag”, “Ugly Aur Pagli” and “Bad Luck Govind”.
