Drugs worth Rs.21 lakh seized in Punjab

CHANDIGARH - Raids at various places in Punjab have led to seizure of habit-forming drugs worth Rs.21 lakh (Rs.2.1 million), a senior health department official said Wednesday.
The state’s health services director, J.P. Singh said that the drugs were seized during raids in Sangrur, Jalandhar and Ludhiana districts in the past one week.
He said that during a raid on Aryan Medical Agency in Sangrur, 24 habit forming drugs worth nearly Rs.374,000 were confiscated.
Investigations revealed that the firm had another unlicensed godown, from where drugs worth Rs.12.2 lakh (Rs.1.22 million) were recovered.
Drug inspectors in Jalandhar seized drugs worth nearly Rs.325,000 from Mahalaxmi Medicos.
In another inspection at Dairy Complex, Ludhiana, officials seized 250,000 injections of Oxytocin drug, worth nearly Rs.200,000.
Singh said the drive to check the sale of such drugs would continue.
