WASHINGTON - American actress Cameron Diaz has topped software security firm McAfee’s Most Dangerous Celebrity poll, which is about the most likely search terms to generate malware-ridden results.

The chance of encountering an infected website or file is higher when searching for actors and models than for politicians. This reflects the calculation by virus writers that people are more likely to search for videos and pictures of entertainment celebrities on the Internet than their favorite Harry Reid YouTube appearance.

“This year, the search results for celebrities are safer than they’ve been in previous years, but there are still dangers when searching online,” Dave Marcus, security researcher for McAfee Labs said.

He also said that while consumers are getting smarter about searching online, “cybercriminals are getting sneakier in their techniques. Now they’re hiding malicious content in ‘tiny’ places like shortened URLs that can spread virally in social networking sites and Twitter, instead of on websites and downloads.”

Actress Julia Roberts follows Diaz on the 2nd place. While actress Jessica Biel is the third most dangerous celebrity search name, reports CBS News.

Model Gisele Bundchen managed the fourth place followed by Hollywood actor Brad Pitt at the fifth spot.

The other celebrities who managed to be among the top ten are:

6. Adriana Lima

7. Jennifer Love Hewitt/Nicole Kidman

8. Tom Cruise

9. Heidi Klum/Penelope Cruz

10. Anna Paquin (ANI)
