New York (GaeaTimes.com) A massive 10 meter 40 ton whale hit a boat when a couple was on a whale watching trip in the boat near Cape Town. Surprisingly the couple did not get hurt but the boat got smashed by the whale. The accident was caught on camera by a by a nearby tourist. The incident would have been hard to believe if the pictures were not available.
The pair was enjoying the calm seas off South Africa Coast when the whale flipped into the air. The beast thrashed their 33 ft vessel. After smashing, it went back to into the water and swam away.
It really was quite incredible but very scary. The whale was about the same size as the boat.
Miss Werner said.
We’d spotted it about 100 meter away and thought that was the end of it. Then suddenly it was right up beside us. I assumed it would go underneath the boat but instead it sprang out of the sea. We were very lucky to get through it, as the sheer weight of the thing was huge.
The whale smashed the mast of the boat. The hull of the boat was made with steel and not fibre glass. It wasn’t damaged too much. As the whale went away, they used the engine to return back to the Cape Town Sailing Academy.
The name of the couple is Ralph Mothes and Paloma Werner. Ralph is 59 years old whereas Paloma is 50. They seemed to be helpless before the giant animal.
